Key actions for leaders could be to:

At foundation level:

• Develop basic equality and human rights elements in your strategic documents, or create a standalone equality and human rights strategy
• Align equality and human rights goals with other organisational priorities

At development level:

• Create a strategic approach with specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound (SMART) objectives
• Review progress against objectives regularly and adapt as needed
• Align equality and human rights goals with organisational priorities systematically

At advanced level:

• Appoint equality and human rights champions or leads in each department or team
• Integrate equality and human rights fully across all departments
• Create regular cross-departmental forums to share learning and coordinate approaches
• Make equality and human rights everyone’s responsibility, not limited to one team
• Monitor departmental progress systematically
